French Drain Installation Boise: Process, Timeline & What to Expect

Installing a French drain is major surgery for your yard. It involves moving tons of earth, navigating utilities, and precise engineering. But when done correctly, it's a permanent cure for water issues. Here is exactly what our 4-step process looks like.

Phase 1: Diagnosis & Layout

Every successful project begins with the question "Where is the water coming from?" We don't just guess; we analyze your soil composition (clay vs. sand), identify source points like downspouts or neighbor runoff, and map out the legal discharge point. We also handle the critical step of calling 811 to mark all underground utilities before a single shovel hits the dirt.

Phase 2: Surgical Excavation

We treat your yard with respect. Before digging, we typically use a mechanical sod cutter to cleanly remove your grass in strips, preserving it for re-installation. We then excavate the trench to the required depth—usually 18 to 24 inches—while maintaining a strict 1% downhill slope using laser levels to ensure water actually moves where we want it to.

Phase 3: The "Burrito Wrap"

This is where the magic happens and where most DIY attempts fail. We line the entire trench with heavy-duty, commercial-grade non-woven geotextile fabric. We then place a base layer of washed drain rock, install the rigid perforated pipe (holes down!), and cover it with more rock.

Finally, we wrap the fabric over the top like a burrito. This creates a completely protected system that allows water in but keeps clogging roots and soil out forever.

Phase 4: Flawless Restoration

Once the system is buried, we don't just leave a mound of dirt. We compact the backfill, replace your original sod, and clean up the work area. Our goal is that two weeks after we leave, you can't tell we were there—except that your drainage problem is gone.

Stop the Water Damage.
